Hires Fredy Ceja as Communications Director
Third full-time hire of 2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission
Sacramento Calif. (November 6, 2020) Today, the 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission (Commission) announced the hiring of Fredy Ceja as its Director of Communications. The announcement was made at the Commission’s Public Meeting on November 6 and Mr. Ceja becomes the Commission’s third full-time hire since it formed in August 2020. Mr. Ceja will begin his work with the Commission on November 12.
“Mr. Ceja brings to the commission a wealth of experience in the communications sphere having worked in both local and state government as well as community and grassroots organizations,” said Commissioner Derric Taylor. “We are especially impressed with Mr. Ceja’s work ethic and passion. It is apparent that Mr. Ceja will dedicate his vast array of talents to this redistricting process which will be of benefit to all the people of California and the Commission's efforts to reach the maximum number of community members.”
Prior to accepting this position, Mr. Ceja served as Communications Director in the office of State Senator Maria Elena Durazo. In that role, Mr. Ceja was the face of the organization and was responsible for press conferences, press releases, e-blasts, and social media management including interfacing with Spanish and English media on behalf of the Senator. Mr. Ceja further assisted with message development and strategy for the Latino delegation on budget and policy matters. Before working in this State office, Mr. Ceja held similar roles and responsibilities in the office of Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo and St. John’s Well Child as well as having functioned as the CEO and Chairman of the Board for Plaza de La Raza Child Development Services, Inc. from 2010 – 2015.
Upon accepting this role, Mr. Ceja stated, “I am honored to have been offered this position and I gladly accept. I am eager to start and look forward to the work ahead.”
