Final executive level position hire of 2020 Citizens Redistricting Commission
Sacramento, CA--(December 3, 2020) Today, the 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission (Commission) announced the hiring of Alvaro E. Hernandez as its Deputy Executive Director. The announcement was made at the Commission’s Public Meeting today. Mr. Hernandez becomes the Commission’s final executive level hire since it formed in August 2020.
“Mr. Hernandez brings to the commission a wealth of experience in education, outreach and administration, having worked over 25 years at the Franchise Tax Board (FTB),” said Commissioner Isra Ahmad. “We are especially impressed with Mr. Hernandez’s experience working within state departments. It is apparent that Mr. Hernandez will utilize his vast array of talents to support the Commission through the redistricting process, while engaging the diverse communities of California.”
“Mr. Hernandez is a great addition to the Commission staff. The selection committee was quite excited to interview Mr. Hernandez and was even more excited to offer him the Deputy Executive Director position to support the Commission’s work. We are happy to have him on board,” stated Commissioner Alicia Fernandez.
Prior to accepting this position, Mr. Hernandez served as Manager of the FTB’s Education and Outreach Section in the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate’s Office and was previously the Small Business Liaison for many years. He coordinated the development and outreach of information for the small business community to assist with their income tax responsibilities as well as sharing FTB programs and services available to them. He also served as the department’s spokesperson for Spanish media.
Upon accepting this role, Mr. Hernandez stated, “I am honored and excited to join the Citizens Redistricting Commission at a pivotal time in its formation and planning. I look forward to continue serving the people of California as we draw the lines for the next ten years.”
